Lundqvist

Henrik Lundqvist

Not exactly a game used goalie mask…but still pretty cool. Lundqvist auctioned off this Porsche racing helmet for his Henrik Lundqvist Foundation charity. Not worn by Henrik, he has a duplicate he uses. Henrik inscribed “if you ain’t first, you’re last…” and signed the helmet.

Luongo

Roberto Luongo - 2008/09 and 2010/11 Vancouver Canucks

Captain's 'C' Mask / 40th Anniversary Mask

One of the most famous goalie masks of recent years, this mask was worn by Roberto during two seasons: 2008/09 and 2010/11. After being named Captain of the Canucks, Luongo was unable to have the C sewn on his jersey, so instead, the team applied a C sticker on his mask. This mask originally had the C sticker on it and has been photo matched to photos during the second half of the 2008/9 season starting on 1/18/09 .

After not using this mask during the 2009/10 season, Luongo once again wore this mask during the first half of the 2010/11 Stanley Cup Finals season (preseason through 11/26/2010). Luongo had voluntarily relinquished the captaincy prior to the season, so his Captain sticker was replaced with a new Canucks 40th Anniversary decal. This mask shows outstanding game use and Luongo has repaired a few spots that saw heavy use on the mask.

Markstrom

Jacob Markstrom - 2011/12 Florida Panthers

This mask was worn in Markstrom's first NHL victory against the New York Islanders on October 22nd, 2011. Markstrom stopped 18 out of 18 shots after replacing Theodore during the first minute of the third period when the game was tied 2-2. The Panthers went on to win the game 4-2, earning Markstrom his first victory. The mask itself shows solid use as he used it with the San Antonio Rampage (AHL) and during his games with the Panthers in the 2011/12 season.  Note:  'B2' on the backplate is an inside joke between Jacob Markstrom and Anders Lindback. On the back plate of Lindback's masks, you will notice 'B1'.  Markstrom states, "We grew up together and when we played in Sweden they called us B1 B2 for bananas in pajamas."

Mason, Steve

Steve Mason - 2017/18 Winnipeg Jets

Mason continued his player zombie theme for a special Halloween mask with the Winnipeg jets during the beginning of the 2017/18 season. He wore this mask from 10/29/17 through 11/14/17. The original backplate for this mask had a tribute to his daughter, so Steve swapped backplates with one from his Blue Jackets masks from the 2011/12 season.

Morrison

Mike Morrison - 2005/06 Ottawa Senators

Mike played 4 games with Ottawa after the Oilers trade (3/25/06; 4/8/06; 4/11/06 and 4/13/06).  Morrison did not have this mask yet for the 3/25/06 game.  Photo matched to 4/11/06 game.  Almost surely used on 4/13/06 and probably on 4/8/06.  Also worn preseason with Phoenix Coyotes beginning of 2006/07 season.

Mrazek

Petr Mrazek - 2019 Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes wore legacy Hartford Whalers uniforms for two games during the 2018/19 season. This mask was made for Mrazek to wear during the second game on 3/5/19 in Boston. However, Mrazek backed up McElhinney that game, and during practice earlier that morning did not like the feel of the mask, so he wore the near identical original Whalers mask during warmups that game.

Osgood

Chris Osgood

This mask was presented to Chris Osgood when he joined the Islanders in 2001.  He liked the design but he was too superstitious to wear it as he did not want to draw attention to his head. Eventually the team returned it since Osgood was not comfortable wearing a mask with a painted design.

Valiquette

Steve Valiquette - 2007/08 NY Rangers

One of the more famous designs of the modern era, Steve Valiquette wore a Spiderman mask for three seasons with the New York Rangers.  This was the first Spiderman paint job that Steve wore and is perfectly photo matched to preseason and the first half of the regular season with the Rangers in which he played in five games.  He was called up to start the preseason and played his first game of the season versus Toronto in the annual Hall of Fame game where he knew if he didn't have a good game that night he would be going back to AHL forever.  That night, he ended up winning 3-2 in a shootout and stayed up with the Rangers for the next few seasons as a result.

Zatkoff

Jeff Zatkoff - 2017/18 Cleveland Monsters (AHL) & Columbus Blue Jackets

Zatkoff’s 2017-18 'Potvin' tribute mask used with the Cleveland Monsters (AHL) after his trade to the Blue Jackets from the Kings. Mask used primarily in the AHL, but worn when Zatkoff called up as a backup goalie for Columbus on 3/6/18. Also used in practice on 9/21/17 in China for preseason Kings games. Mask was painted using "SubZero" paint, which darkens as the temperature drops, so the mask looks silver in some pictures and near black in others. For a few photos I rubbed the mask with ice water to show the effect.
