Niklas Backstrom - 2006/07 Minnesota Wild

Niklas Backstrom's first Minnesota Wild mask. It was worn during his rookie 2006/07 season. Backstrom started out this season as a backup to Manny Fernandez. At the midway mark of the season, Fernandez suffered a knee injury, and Backstrom was forced into the starting role where he shined. Backstrom had a huge 2nd half of the season and finished first in the NHL in both save percentage and goals against average.

Tom Barrasso - 1995/96 and 1996/97 Pittsburgh Penguins

This was Barrasso's first Cubberly mask and was worn for two seasons with the Penguins.  The mask was then painted white and rotated to back up duty, and was still white when acquired.   Barrasso mentioned the Penguins paint was underneath the white, so Nelson White restored the mask and applied a new clear coat.

Blackwood wore this mask for three seasons: 2016/17 Albany Devils; 2017/18 with the Binghamton Devils and Adirondack Thunder (ECHL); and 2018/19 with Binghamton and the NJ Devils (23 games) including NHL debut on 12/18/18.

Martin Brodeur - 2002 - 2008 New Jersey Devils

Martin Brodeur is one of the NHL's all time goaltending greats. In 18 NHL seasons, Brodeur has rewritten the goaltending record books by winning over 650 regular season games and posting over 120 regular season shutouts (All time leader in both categories). Along the way, the greatest player in the Devils’ history has won three Stanley Cups and won four Vezina Trophies. Brodeur was also the youngest goalie to reach 300, 400, 500, and 600 wins.

This mask was used by Brodeur during a large portion of the glory years of his career. He wore it for 6 seasons from 2002 through 2008, during which he won one Stanley Cup and all four of his Vezinas.

In the 2002-03 season, Brodeur had quite an amazing stat line for the regular season: 73 games, 9 shutouts, a 91.4% save percentage, a GAA of 2.02, a record of 41-23-9-5, and a Vezina trophy. He carried this momentum into the playoffs. His seven shutouts in the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs are a record. The 2003 Stanley Cup Finals also went down as one of the more memorable series in hockey history. Ducks fans will remember Paul Kariya's remarkable revenge goal in Game 6 after being crushed by Scott Stevens. On June 9th 2003, Martin Brodeur became just the 3rd goaltender in NHL history to pitch a shutout in a game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, leading the Devils past the virtually unbeatable Giguere to win the Cup. It was his 3rd shutout in the Finals series against the Ducks. The 2002-03 New Jersey Devils team will be remembered in hockey history as it put the Devils on top of the list of dominant teams of the decade.

In the 2003-04 Season, Brodeur followed up his Vezina season with another huge year. On March 23rd, 2004 Brodeur became the youngest goaltender to win 400 when Scott Niedermayer scored with 1:05 left in overtime, lifting the New Jersey Devils to a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers. Also, Martin took home his 2nd Vezina trophy this season.

In the 2004-05 Lockout Season, Brodeur wore the mask briefly for the Primus WorldStars Challenge Bowl 2004…a seven country 10 game series of games from Dec 7 through Dec 23, 2004.

In May 2005, Brodeur wore this mask for Team Canada at the IIHF Men's Ice Hockey Championships. Team Canada took home the silver medal in the tournament.

Ilya Bryzgalov - 2005/06 Anaheim Ducks

“Mr Universe” wore this mask starting in the 2004/05 season with the AHL Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. Bryzgalov then wore it the entire following 2005/06 season with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, including playoffs. Then worn for the Ducks (no longer Mighty) the first part of their Stanley Cup 2006/07 season. Lastly, worn during one game in the 2006 Turin Olympic Games on 2/15/06 in a loss to Slovakia.

Burke’s only painted mask used with the New Jersey Devils during the start of his career. Photo matched to the 1988/89 season and 1989/90 season, probably also worn during the 1990/91 season. Burke wore this mask in the 40th All Star game on 2/7/89.

Louis Domingue - 2016/17 Arizona Coyotes

Domingue’s mask used during the entire 2016/17 season. The mask incorporates renderings of Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson, former Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash and former Coyotes goalie Sean Burke. Sometime in early February 2017 Domingue had Larry Fitzgerald sign the mask. Although faded since he used the mask for months with the autograph, it can still be clearly seen over his image.

Rick DiPietro - 2010/11 NY Islanders

DiPietro's mask from the 2010/11 season worn from 12/29/10 through 2/2/2011.  During a fight with Brent Johnson in that game on 2/2/11 vs the Penguins, DiPietro received facial fractures knocking him out for 6 weeks.  He wore a Cooper style mask when he returned.

Fiset wore this mask during the first half of 1995/96 Stanley Cup Championship season after the team’s move from Quebec to Colorado. Fiset was wearing this mask during the first Avalanche franchise game on 10/6/95, a 3-2 win over Detroit in their first home game in McNichols Sports Arena (https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=xxTWkLrQT3Q around the 6 minute mark in video shows him wearing the mask as the Avs win the game)

Fiset became back up to Roy once Montreal controversially traded him to Colorado in December 1995.

Marc-Andre Fleury - 2017/18 Golden Knights

This was the first mask worn in Las Vegas Golden Knights’ franchise history during the beginning of their inaugural 2017/18 season. Fleury wore this mask for the first four games (first Knights game on 10/6/17, first Vegas home game on 10/10/17, and first Vegas wins both home and away). Unfortunately Fleury received a concussion during 4th game of the season, and he returned with a new mask in December to lead the team to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Anton Forsberg - 2014/15 Columbus Blue Jackets

Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr wore this mask during his tenure with the Buffalo Sabres. Photo matched to games during the 1992/93 season and early 1993/94 season.

Not all photos match 100% as Greg Harrison touched up certain parts of the mask because it was going on display at the McMichael Art Gallery several years ago and he didn't want the masks looking too beat up. So about 95% of it photo matches and then there are a couple areas that he touched up that don’t match exactly.

Alexandar Georgiev - 2020 New York Rangers

Georgiev wore this mask during the 2020 playoffs to raise awareness in support of Martin Luther King’s message of equal rights for all people. The mask highlights MLK’s “I have a dream” speech. He auctioned it off to raise money for charities supporting kids and families of color struggling with poverty. Unfortunately the Rangers were eliminated in just three games, so Georgiev did not make it into any games, but he wore the mask backing up Lundqvist in two of the games.

Six time Vezina Trophy winner and Hall of Famer Dominik Hasek wore this mask during the first half of the 2005/06 season with the Ottawa Senators through 1/4/06. During this season wearing this mask he recorded his 300th career victory on 10/15/05.

Hasek also wore this mask with the Primus Worldstars during the NHL lockout 2004/05 season. The Primus Worldstars Tour ran December 7 through Dec 23 2004, playing in seven different countries (Riga, Latvia; Moscow and St Petersburg, Russia; Bratislava, Slovakia; Bern, Switzerland; Karlstad, Jönköping and Linköping, Sweden; Oslo, Norway; Katowice, Poland) in ten scheduled games. The tour competed against all-star teams or club teams of each country.

Ron Hextall - 1986/87 Philadelphia Flyers

Hextall wore this Cooper mask during his rookie season with the Flyers. Photo-matched to the beginning of the season until at least 1/10/87, so possibly worn during his NHL debut on 10/9/86. At some point during the second half of the season Hextall switched over to a painted combo mask. Hextall had a great year and went on to win the Vezina that season, and lost to Edmonton in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Johnson started wearing this mask at the end of the 2001/02 season in April through the playoffs.  Then worn the next two seasons (2002/03 and 2003/04) with the Blues.  Also worn briefly with the Phoenix Coyotes at the end of the 2004 season when he was traded on 3/4/2004.

Johnson's 2006/07 mask photo-matched to at least four games on 11/4/06; 11/6/06; 1/16/07 and 1/26/07.  Johnson also wore this mask several years later during preseason with the Pittsburgh Penguins in September 2009.

Brent Johnson - 2012 Pittsburgh Penguins

Johnson's 3rd jersey mask for the Penguins, but he did not receive the mask until February 2012.  Johnson didn't play in any 3rd jersey games the rest of that season, then retired, so mask was not worn in any games.

Chad Johnson - 2018/19 Anaheim Ducks

Chad was traded to the Ducks midway through the season and had this mask made for 3rd jersey games. Johnson wore this mask several times as a back up goalie, and in games on 2/4/19 and 2/5/19. Very cool dark matte paint job.

Martin Jones rookie mask during the Kings Stanley Cup season.  Used from pre-season thru 2/26/14 including NHL debut on 12/3/13.  Worn as backup goalie for the Stadium Series game on 1/25/14.  Jones also wore this mask for some games with the AHL Manchester Monarchs during the 2013/14 season.

This mask was the first Leafs mask made for Curtis once he arrived in Toronto. Light, but obvious signs of use and was part of the Frank Cipra collection. The mask has not been photo matched yet, so maybe just worn during pre-season or as a backup.

Kaapo Kahkonen - 2022 Winter Classic Minnesota Wild

Kahkonen’s mask for the 2022 Winter Classic played at Target Field in Minneapolis on 1/1/22. At a temperature of -6 degrees at face off, this was the coldest NHL game ever played outdoors. Kahkonen didn’t start, but played the third period in relief of Cam Talbot.

Kari Lehtonen - 2005/06 Atlanta Thrashers

300 NHL game winner Kari Lehtonen wore this ‘Final Fantasy’ mask early in his career with the Thrashers. Worn during the entire season for his first full year in the NHL. Also worn with Finland during the 2004 World Cup of Hockey (as back up to Kiprosoff); and worn during the 2004/05 season in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves.

Anders Lindback - 2011/12 Nashville Predators

Lindback's 2011/12 mask worn towards the end of the season from 3/17/12 through 4/3/12.   Note:  'B1' on the backplate is an inside joke between Jacob Markstrom and Anders Lindback. On the back plate of Markstrom's masks, you will notice 'B2'.  Markstrom states, "We grew up together and when we played in Sweden they called us B1 B2 for bananas in pajamas."
